A FEW WORD ON BLACK-OUTS

In the last decade black outs, cover ups and blast overs have slowly and unexpectedly become a main focus in my artistic evolution. I never tried to specialize in it- it just happened naturally.

Earlier in my career I might have labelled this type of work as “no fun” or maybe viewed it as a limitation to my artistic expression, as I think was the same with a lot of tattooers, but that feeling drastically changed over time as I started understanding the negative emotional impact the unwanted tattoos had on my clients. I noticed the relief that they felt and saw their confidence restored after their old tattoos were covered.

As someone who started getting tattooed at a very young age I am fully aware of the emotional impact a tattoo can have on the way you see yourself (both positive and negative).
I ended up feeling a deep and personal connection towards covering up old work and helping people leave their pasts behind.
I am convinced that a tattoo can be more than an ornament, and doing this type of work adds a lot of meaning to what I do.

Nowadays I see black outs and similar projects as the main way of expressing myself through tattooing,
I approach the drawings as I if I were solving a riddle, the solution is always there, you just have to learn to see it 🖤

For those who might be interested in having a chat with me,
I officially open my books twice a year, but I am always available to meet up or have a video call to discuss your ideas,

Nothing but love to everyone out there,
Dejan
